Campground Job Description
CAMP HOST – We are looking for a couple or team of 2 people, living in one RV for the position of Campground Host.
HOST HELPER – If you are a single individual, we are currently looking for host helpers.
Position: Full-time Campground Host Team (required to live on-site full-time).
Full-time or Part-time Host Helper (required to live on-site full-time).
Term: Position will commence March-May and run until September/October.
Location: We are located along the West Side of Harrison Lake in the Fraser Valley of BC.
Wage: This is a contract position. You will be an independent contractor, not an employee.
- Wages are a percentage of net revenue from camping permits.
- Fuel Expense compensation provided for use of personal generator, for business purposes.
- Shared revenue from Firewood sales.
- 100% of revenue from bottles and cans.
Requirements:
- You must provide your own self contained camping unit (Camper, Trailer, RV or Motorhome) to live on-site for the duration of the season. This is dry camping and there are no hook-ups available.
- Generator is required.
- Reliable Vehicle and Valid BC Driver’s License (min. class 5) required. A pick-up truck is highly recommended for job related duties and for travelling rough Forest Service Roads.
- Must pass a background and criminal record check.
- Laptop or Computer required.
- A printer is highly recommended for larger campgrounds that accept reservations.
- High school or equivalent education.
- Valid First Aid certificate an asset, but is not essential.
- Handyman/woman skills are an asset.
- Must provide your own Tools required to fulfill your duties (rake, shovel, hammer, etc.).
- Must provide your own Cleaning Supplies required to fulfill your duties (broom, bleach/disinfectant, rubber gloves, etc.).
- Excellent customer service skills and experience required.
- Compliance with all RSTBC and West Harrison Reservations policies and procedures.
- Energetic and physically fit.
- Required to file your business GST forms at the end of your fiscal year as required by the Gov. of BC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure campground facilities are maintained to RSTBC and West Harrison Reservations standards. Ensuring a safe, clean and sanitary environment in all Operating Areas.
- Cleaning and maintaining campsites, day use areas, and all public areas of the property.
- Basic landscaping duties including raking and trimming of branches, etc.
- Maintain trailheads which includes raking and sweeping around kiosks, etc.
- Maintaining food waste bins and picking up litter around all areas of campground.
- Removal and transport of garbage and food waste to a designated off-site bin supplied by the manager.
- Removal of refundable recycling (beverage bottles and cans) and transporting to a city/provincial/private facility.
- Maintenance of washroom facilities which includes sweeping and cleaning the outhouses, and minor repairs as required.
- Minor Maintenance (replace signs and picnic table boards, painting, etc.).
- Revenue Collection (collecting camping fees, issuing user permits, supplying revenue reports and cash-outs sheets). Follow proper cash handling and record keeping procedures.
- Manage and post reservations if applicable.
- Occupancy Reporting to management.
- The sale of firewood.
- Open designated campground gates to the public and close the gates at the end of the day.
- Enforce parking compliance.
- Ensure campground compliance and security by ensuring campground areas are patrolled and guests are abiding by the campground usage guidelines and enforcing quiet hours.
- Maintain a high level of communication between guests, co-workers and the manager.
- Maintain a safe and positive work environment.
- Monitor what’s going on in the campground and respond appropriately.
- Assist campground guests and visitors with basic questions and requests.
- Other related duties as required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Cash handling experience.
- General computer knowledge and the ability to use email efficiently. Ability to learn the basics of our online reservation system to retrieve information.
- Ability to keep organized and detailed records regarding campground usage and maintenance requirements.
- Strong public relations and guest service skills required. Must be able to be assertive while maintaining a friendly manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with managers, supervisors, co-workers and clients.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume environment.
- Resourceful and able to work independently in remote locations.
- Ability to defuse confrontational situations in an effective manner.
